Feng Shui has been around since time immemorial. Many people applied this in many aspects of their lives, and home decorating is one of Feng Shui’s top applications. Given this Chinese practice’s current age, is it still a trend to this day’s home decorating?
What is Feng Shui?
The best definition that comes to mind when we think of Feng Shui is “finding the balance and harmony in many things and what’s in between.” In the context of interior design, Feng Shui is learning how to channel the energy (qi) efficiently to one’s home. This may include from positioning charms to arranging furniture to specific directions. Also, one prime example of Feng Shui application is the yin and yang theory wherein opposing forces can find common ground with each other’s existences.
The Relevance of Feng Shui to Modern Times
Given that there are people who want to invite positive energy to come to them, they will definitely seek to study Feng Shui and how to apply it. This is especially true for those who have Chinese descent albeit they apply it first on their businesses, and home decorating comes next.
There’s an old saying where before one can lead a good life outside, they should live a good life inside (at home) first. To achieve such a feat, there are small sacrifices to do before one can feel balance and harmony in body and spirit. For example, you may have to restrain going for your favorite decor as it may not bring good flow of qi.
Since this practice has been around for a thousand years or so, there are certain “truths” as to how the location of certain things can ensure to bring luck or misfortune. Primarily, Feng Shui can become quite expensive if you follow each teaching to the last word as you might as well do a complete house makeover like choosing specific colors for each room or buy Chinese lucky charms of varying sizes.

Be it as a superstition to those who don’t believe it or as a lifeline to those who desire to live a better life, Feng Shui will be around for many more years. It has already withstood the changing times and many criticisms. This Chinese belief continues to influence aesthetics outside of home decorating such as in architecture and landscaping.
