Cleaning Up Clutter-Magnet Spaces in Your Home

Cleaning Up Clutter-Magnet Spaces in Your Home

When people don’t do a timely cleaning, some spaces in our houses will still attract more clutter than others. This is true for some places where you spend time the most. One way to solve this is by having a thorough decluttering at least once a week.

Hotspots for Clutter in Your Home

People spend most of their time in the kitchen, living area, and bedrooms. Clutter may accumulate in this areas, but more so on other spaces in your house where you converted into storage rooms. Such examples are the basement, attic, garage, etc.

Clutter becomes a problem when they magnify in size and when there a lot of things that you don’t need any more than what you need. It’s time to declutter those hotspots for the sake of having a comfortable living.

Declutter These Spaces

In decluttering, there is a vital rule you should apply. This is the “recycle, keep, or get rid” scheme. It’s a scheme where you get to evaluate every item when you ask yourself questions about whether you should keep them or not.

Pantry and Refrigerator

Have you been doing upkeep on your pantry or refrigerator? The task includes determining if the items stocked are still edible or past their expiration dates. Some food items are rarely used than others (especially if they’re ingredients for a seasonal dish), so it’s best if you buy them in small quantities next time. Furthermore, to avoid decluttering that takes ample time, it’s best if you do it every two weeks or so.

Bedroom and Closet

In your bedroom, surely you can find things that don’t specifically belong in the room and you just brought them from the outside. These things may gather up and become clutter when you don’t do a regular surface cleaning. Example of the things that you may focus on are the books, mails, dining ware, etc.

The closet is a big hotspot for clutter because since the inside is hidden, you can stuff it up so that the bedroom may appear relatively tidy. However, the closet would be overpopulated and make clothes and other stuff harder to find if you don’t do decluttering. Decluttering also includes unused clothes or seasonal clothes that are best stored in boxes and not inside your bedroom closet.

Bathroom

Though you didn’t expect it, the bathroom can be a haven for clutter that you don’t need. Such are expired meds in your medicine cabinet to the empty bottles for hair care, skincare, makeup, cleaning, etc. When decluttering, arrange the things that you use every day at an eye level.

Living Room

The living room can look untidy when things aren’t in their proper places or when they don’t have specified places yet. Decide where you should normally put your keys, remote, mails, books, etc. Assess also whether the bookshelves need decluttering especially if there are books that aren’t to your taste. You can donate those books to those who need them instead.

Conclusion

When you get the hang of it, decluttering is a task that can relieve your stress while keeping the house clean and tidy. Do this every now and then for a more comfortable house living.
