Most laundry rooms are small and tiny and since doing laundry is a weekly task, finding more space is nearly impossible. If you want to squeeze more space in your small laundry room, here are some tips to make it more spacious and enjoyable, too.
1. Invest in stackable washer-dryer set.
Having a stackable washer-dryer set is a big help if you need extra inches to store your laundry supplies or where you can treat stains.
Need extra inches to treat stains or store supplies? Investing in a stackable washer-dryer set could be your quickest fix.
A stackable washer-dryer is one of the best solutions if you want to have a full-service laundry capability, but you only have limited space. This stackable washer dryer is also known as the laundry center as the dryer stands on top of the washer to save space.
2. Add more shelves
Adding more shelves is one of the most common fixes to storage problems. The best spot you can place your vertical shelves is placing it overhead, so it doesn’t extend to the ceiling. Making it bright or having it customized can help the space look bigger or maximized.
You can also place shelves behind the door. What’s good with this is it does not cost much. The materials are inexpensive. Measure the distance between the door hinge and the wall and subtract an inch. This is the maximum depth of the shelves.
We used 1x4s for the sides, top and shelves. Screw the sides to the top. Then screw three 1×2 hanging strips to the sides: one top and bottom and one centered. Nail metal shelf standards to the sides.
Complete the shelves by nailing a 1×2 trim piece to the sides and top. The 1×2 dresses up the shelf unit and keeps the shelves from falling off the shelf clips.
3. Have a clothes hanger holder
Shelves and cabinets above your washer or dryer are the ideal spots to store the hangers for clothes. Simply mount a towel bar to the base of the cabinets. You can hang up shirts and slacks straight from the dryer right away. This is a great idea to save space as it uses the space between the shelves and washer or dryer.
For additional clever hacks, you can repurpose an old ladder from the garage, which allows you to do away with a conventional drying rack.
4. Tuck in your ironing board
Having an ironing board just messing around the room takes up too much space in your laundry. So here’s our idea, why don’t you just tuck it in. It can be in the form of a wall-mounted board or a pull-out drawer style.
5. Add baskets to your cabinets
Even small laundry rooms have cabinets that don’t maximize its storage capability. Adding pull-out drawers or baskets to the cabinets is perfect particularly for storing the laundry supplies. Baskets can be easily installed in cabinets and inexpensive, too.
